System Check
Easier visualisation for the system check during installation
Small visual changes can make a difference in the User Experience, not only in general experience, but in time, in support calls, and, of course, in cost.

This might seem like a small project but the impact was helping the complete installation process to be quicker and clearer to our users.

The general process and detection of the problem were handled by our Product Managers, while my main task here was to support on research and design the screens to help visualize it more clearly.
Main problem
After the complete installation steps are completed, we show a summary screen with all information about it, to help the installer check what went right, and what did not, and decide on the next steps, as professionals.
Main issues:

-
Too much information in general.
-
Less prioritized and hard-to-read blocks.
-
Different levels between information and actions.

Solution
We introduced the following features to attack the main problems:

1. A loading state: it makes transparent to the user that the information is being processed, and that there is no action to take at the moment. This loading screen takes normally no more than a few seconds, but it clarifies to the user why is not reacting immediately (as the system needs time to retrieve all information from the server)

2. Collapsable info blocks: 3 main areas were detected and we added the relevant detail to each of the blocks. This helped declutter the quantity of info shown and also helped detect the areas where there are actions needed.

3. Visual Hints: right, wrong, or warning visuals helped the user summarise quickly the process and take quick actions, without reading the content.

4. Clear finish action: introduced the 'done' button to let the decision to the professional installer finish the process thereof fixes the open topics, depending on their expertise.

We kept the "Important notice box" as a separate box because it is easy to read and identify, according to our user's feedback. We kept the neutral intention and not a critical message.

Learnings
-
Small changes can have a big impact: thanks to some tracking set, we noticed a reduction on the customer support calls (for this specific topic)
-
Visual hints reduce the effort of reading to a user that just need a quick confirmation if what they have done is right.
-
App projects are as fun as Hardware Projects!
